I just finished reading this and it was a great book. Matt Carter is the lead pastor here at The Austin Stone Community Church and Darrin Patrick is the lead pastor of Journey Church in St. Louis.
I enjoyed this book because Matt talked about how the Lord brought him to the city of Austin just six years ago and how the Lord showed Matt that the people in Austin were is mission field. Matt and Darrin also write about the hard times, the times they wanted to give up, but they didn't because God showed His faithfulness to them. Matt and Darrin show us that being "for the city" is a great way to reach out to the lost and showing Christians that they don't have to go very far to have an impact on the Kingdom. The Lord can use YOU, wherever you are and no matter how messed up you are.
Here are some of my favorite quotes:
"Here is the reality for a true disciple of Jesus. Following him will always take you into relationships that make you uncomfortable. In other words, if you are not currently in some kind of relationship with a drunk, a prostitute, a beggar, an outcast, or a modern social equivalent to one of these people, you are not wholeheartedly following Jesus."
"To understand grace is to know down deep that you have nothing to offer God but your uninspired, rebellious, disobedient life. The good news is that God delights in using broken people like us to reach broken cities like ours."
If you're looking for a good, but challenging book to read, I encourage you to check out this book.
